Micro Testicular Sperm Extraction (Micro TESE)

Micro Testicular Sperm Extraction (Micro TESE)

Micro-TESE (microscopic testicular sperm extraction) surgery is a procedure that is used to retrieve sperm from the testicles of men who have very low or no sperm count in their semen. It is a more advanced and precise version of the traditional TESE procedure.

Micro TESE operation may be recommended by doctors if there is a lack of sperm in the ejaculate or if the quantity and quality of sperm is not sufficient for assisted reproductive techniques to be successful.

Micro Testicular Sperm Extraction is often recommended for patients with azoospermia, severe male factor infertility, vasectomy or cystic fibrosis gene mutations, or infectious causes of vas deferens obstruction.

Additionally, if a man has normal testosterone levels but his testicles are not producing enough sperm, Micro TESE may be recommended. Don't give up hope - speak to your doctor about your options.

Micro TESE Procedure

  • Micro-TESE (microsurgical testicular sperm extraction) is a procedure used to retrieve sperm from the testicles of men who have little or no sperm in their ejaculate.
  • The procedure is typically performed under general anaesthesia.

  • A small incision is made in the scrotum to access the testicle.

  • Using a high-powered microscope, a surgeon carefully identifies and removes small pieces of testicular tissue that may contain sperm.

  • The tissue is then examined in a laboratory to identify and isolate any viable sperm.

  • If sperm are found, they can be used for in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to help a couple conceive.
